And your Lord inspired to the bee, "Take for yourself among the mountains, houses, and among the trees and [in] that which they construct. Then eat from all the fruits and follow the ways of your Lord laid down [for you]." There emerges from their bellies a drink, varying in colors, in which there is healing for people. Indeed in that is a sign for a people who give thought. — Surat An-Nahl 16:68-69
Apitherapy/Bee sting Therapy
An Islamic Healing Method, an application of honeybee venom, through live bee stings, to bring relief and healing for various spinal, neural, joint, or musculoskeletal ailments. Bee venom is a rich source of enzymes, peptides and biogenic amines. There are at least 18 active components in the venom which have pharmaceutical properties. The effect mechanism of the venom is not entirely know yet. Scientists believe it can modify the way the immune system functions in the body and contribute to increased cortisol production.
Conditions responding to (BVT) include , but are not limited to:
- Arthritis - Osteoarthritis - Rheumatoid Arthritis and Hair Thinning Problems.
- Gout - Tendinitis, Problematic Spinal discs.
- Pulled muscles & Cramping.
- Sciatica - Muscle spasms.
- Injuries to: ankles, shoulders, knee, elbow, hips ,wrists.
- Chronic Fatigue
Bee venom has multiple effects on the body: It improves blood circulation, increases physical strength and well being, stimulates the pituitary-cortical system, reduces pain and inflammation , has anti-oxidant effects, activates immune system, and helps convert chronic conditions to acute thus facilitating the healing of chronic inflammatory conditions.
No official body in the US has sanctioned Apitherapy as a recognized treatment modality. Bee venom has been approved by the FDA for de-sensitization purposes only. Apitherapy is considered, from both the legal and medical view point, an experimental approach.
Composition of Bee Venom:
1-Melitin: Powerful Anti-Viral , Anti-bacterial & Anti-inflammatory , Stimulates ACTH secretion in the Pituitary Gland , Destabilizes all the membrane structures at the level of the phospholipids - which produces Strong anti-inflammatory effects.
Long-lasting, short-acting histaminic effects: Increased capillary permeability, edema (swelling), temperature elevation, itching, pain; increased vitality and sense of well being; forces bee venom to attach to negatively charged cell wall; anti-oxidant action.
2-Apamin: Stimulates central and peripheral nervous system. Stimulates secretion of serotonin and dopamine; anti-arrhythmic. So it Increases central and peripheral pain threshold, decreases pain, increases sense of well-being.
3-Adolapin: Inhibits enzymes in metabolic cascades of arachidonic acid and cyclo-oxygenase. so it has an anti-inflammatory and analgesic / pain releife action.
4-Mast Cell Degranulating Peptide (MCDP or peptide 401): Has Anti-inflammatory actions (approximately 100 times stronger than hydrocortisone) So it Reduces inflammation and pain through local action on tissue inflammation. Activates adrenal and sympathetic system.
5-Hyluronidase, Secapin, Tertiapin, Procamine: Anti-inflammatory , Pain relief by inhibition of "substance P" ( It function as a neurotransmittor and neuro-modulator , Substance P is released from the terminals of specific sensory nerves, it is found in the brain and spinal cord, and is associated with inflammatory processes and pain).
6-Compound X , Phospholipase A2 , Histamine: Involved in the inflammatory response of Venom, with the softening of tissue and the Facilitation of flow of the other substances deeper into the tissues.
7-Measurable amounts of the neurotransmittors: Dopamine , Norepinephrine and Seratonine.
Possible Side Effects:
There is discomfort associated with the administration of bee venom including pain, itching, swelling, inflammation and redness. Symptoms like redness, swelling and itching are desired effects of the therapy showing the response of the patient to the venom. The more severe the reaction, but not anaphylaxis, the faster the recovery. Exposure to bee venom - on rare occasions - may cause asthma &/or life threatening allergic reaction.
Most reactions to bee venom are mild to moderate, lasting only several minutes to several days and are at worst only uncomfortable and/or irritating.
Be patient and expect a personalized , gradual , progressive and tolerable healing plan.
Bee venom hypersensitivity, pregnancy, congenital heart diseases, cardiovascular conditions, hematological disorders, atherosclerosis, purulent infections, tuberculosis, fever, psychosis, venereal diseases, pre and post surgery, malicious tumor, liver and kidney sever malfunction, Vaccination, use of BVT with Adrenocortical Steroids and/or Non steroidal Anti-inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs) or with Beta-Blockers, depression, Unwillingness.
